Van Morrison, Moving Hearts, The Blue Nile & Ronan Keating to name but a few. News: The last few months have been pretty flat out. Starting in April I toured on kit and percussion with Curb records artist Brian Kennedy promoting his new album Interpretations, finishing with a triumphant 2 nights at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. The morning after that tour ended I had to be in Glasgow's Terminal Studios with legendary Blue Nile producer Calum Malcolm to start work on a Linn Records Project for new signing Maeve O Boyle, session giant Lawrence Cottle was on bass. After 4 days of tracking it was a plane to Heathrow and another 5 days in another studio to finish an album begun for BLACK (it's a wonderful wonderful life) with TALK TALK bass man Simon Edwards and the great Calum MacColl on guitar. Another day , another Hat, literally the day after that session finished I moved to The Daughters of Albion Project comprising Old and New luminaries from the English folk establishment JUNE TABOR, NORMA WATERSON, ELISA CATHY, KATHERINE WILLIAMS, BISHI for rehearsals and shows at Birmingham symphony Hall and the Brighton Dome. During all this Van Morrison’s new opus KEEP IT SIMPLE (that makes 5 Van albums to me to date) was released featuring yours truly on percussion with Neil Wilkinson on kit. Two days at home to repack a bag and the straight to Music Bank in London again for a month of rehearsals and then 20 UK Arena shows with the Big Pop Circus that is BOYZONE (one review described the show as "unexpectedly amazing"....Job done I think J The rest of the summer brings 10 more shows at festivals with the Boys and tours in France and Spain with Celtic Fusion band MOVING HEARTS (big drum and perc instrumental workout stuff). In September 2008 I returned to the Van Morrison camp for some live shows in the UK on percussion with Neil Wilkinson on kit. The big moment though was recording "Astral Weeks Live” at THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL in November with Yours truly on Percussion and Robbie Roggiero on Drums. The Astral Weeks Band was a gather up of 30 years worth of Van Morrison Alumni, including as many of the original album's session players as possible, so to be included in this prestigious line up was a real privilege. 2009 brings another trip to the states, NY this time to recreate the Astral experience at Madison Square Garden and an appearance on the Letterman show. Back to the states a second time in late March with Celtic Fusionists "MOVING HEARTS " IN SAN FRANCISCO . May, June & July will see Boyzone back on a second arena tour and some big tub thumping again, can't wait. NO REST FOR THE WICKED AS THEY SAY!
